Holy Week
2011
Holy Week is the time in which we
commemorate and relive the days surrounding Jesus' crucifixion and
resurrection. It is a week without parallel in the Church
year. All people are invited to attend all of our
services. Members of our church are especially encouraged to
come to as many of the services as they are able.

April 17: Palm Sunday: Sunday
services begin outside. 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
April 18- April 21: Eucharist every
day at noon in the chapel.
April 20: Tenebrae: 7:30

Noontime
Communion
During Holy Week, we remember Jesus
suffering, death, and resurrection. One way we do that is by
celebrating communion at noon Monday through Thursday. All
people are invited, and all baptized Christians are welcome to
receive communion. In our chapel at noon, the service lasts
for about half an hour.
April 20, 7:30 p.m.
Tenebrae: A time of
shadows.
In this service, the church
experiences the last days of Christ's life. Based in an
ancient form, our version of this liturgy is non-traditional,
intuitive, and experimental. This our third year of doing
this kind of Tenebrae. So far, we have found it to be
fruitful. Younger children (and some adults) may find some of
the imagery disturbing. Childcare is available.
April 21, 7:00 p.m.
Maundy
Thursday
At this service, we commemorate
Jesus' institution of the Eucharist (communion), his command to
love one another, and his washing of the disciples' feet.
Footwashing as well as communion are part of this time of
worship. The stripping of the altar ends this service.
All are welcome. Communion is open to all baptized
Christians. Childcare is available.
April 22, noon-3:00
p.m.
Good Friday: The Seven
Last Words
Jesus hung on the cross for
three hours on the first "Good Friday." We hold an annual
vigil during these same hours. While on the cross, he spoke
seven times. Our vigil centers around these seven
utterances. We use them as a guide for prayer, praise,
meditation, and contemplation. All are welcome, some people
come for just part of the service. Childcare is
available.
April 22, 7:00 p.m.
Good Friday: Outdoor
Stations of the Cross
Follow Jesus from his temptation in
the Garden of Gethsemane through his sufferings to his death on the
cross. This service commemorates 14 biblical events while
following a large cross around our property. Physical actions
are included at some of the stations. All people are welcome,
though you will need to be able to walk over uneven ground.
Dress appropriately for the weather.
April 24, 5:00 a.m.
The Great Vigil of
Easter
In this most ancient of
Christian services, we gather to hear the story of salvation
history as we await the dawn. As the sun rises, we have
communion together and celebrate the return of Christ from the
grave.
